Basij Infantry Company
The Basij were often lightly armed with a mix of weapons drawn from whateverstocks were available. The lucky units were armed with AKM assault rifles eitherpurchased from foriegn sources or captured from the Iraqis. Some units weresupplied by the Army with G3 battle rifles. Many had old bolt-action rifles fromthe 1940s and 50s. Particularly well-armed units had PKM machine-guns mixed intheir assualt rifles. Soviet RPG-7 anti-tank weapons provided heavy firepoweragainst tanks, dug-in infantry, and bunkers.
